Windows Phone 8 meets Nokia Lumia 820

nokia820Welcome to the latest version of Microsoft’s operating system – Windows Phone 8.

Packed with new features, Windows Phone 8 is designed to make your work life easier, keeping everything you need in one place, whether it’s your email, Microsoft Office documents or your social media.

Windows 8 has been designed specifically to work across all of your gadgets, allowing you to seamlessly move information between your computer, tablet and phone, and with Microsoft’s cloud based storage SkyDrive, you’re able to access uploaded documents wherever you are, without taking up space on your device’s memory.

With full Microsoft Office support, the Nokia Lumia 820 is also the perfect office on the go, enabling you to view and edit PowerPoint, Excel and Word documents wherever you are and share them via email or upload them to SkyDrive to access them anywhere.

All In One Place

The email on the handset is both clever and simple to use; link to your work and personal accounts with full Outlook support and the ability to link any other email account you have, keeping all of your updates in one place. Emails are automatically grouped so that you can easily follow those complicated threads, and viewing PDFs or attached documents is fast, easy and intuitive.

Find Your Way

Nokia Drive is a truly innovative navigation tool for when you’re out travelling, not only offering free turn by turn voice-guided navigation, but speed and traffic alerts help you get to your destination faster. Even better, it works offline, which not only save you money on data charges, but means you’ll never have to worry about losing signal at a crucial junction.

One very thoughtful feature is the ‘Kids Corner’, which allows you to set up an area on your phone specifically for your kids (with apps, games etc) and ensuring that they aren’t able to send messages or make calls to all of your important contacts.

You can charge your Lumia 820 wirelessly simply by resting it on a wireless charging plate, doing away with fiddly connections and wires, however this isn’t the only thing your phone can do wirelessly – NFC (Near Field Communication) is another really interesting feature. It enables you to transfer data to other NFC devices with a touch and make contactless payments in a growing number of stores. This makes file sharing incredibly simple and smooth and opens the phone up to a huge range of possibilities as the technology becomes more commonplace in everyday life.

CONCLUSION

While the new Nokia Lumia 820 will come with full Windows Phone 8, all is not lost for those with previous versions of the Lumia family – Nokia are planning to upgrade the Windows Phone 7.5 operating system to Windows Phone 7.8 which will offer all of the features of Windows Phone 8 apart from those which are hardware dependant, such as NFC, so you’ll soon be able to experience this beautifully designed and incredibly intuitive interface too!

BB10 Launches – The Next Evolution of BlackBerry

The long awaited BlackBerry Z10, featuring the new BB10 operating system, has finally launched in the UK. The question is, has it done enough to appease both the BlackBerry devotees and tempt the Android and iOS lovers away from their smartphones?

Were it not for the branding, you be forgiven for initially not being to able to place the Z10 as a BlackBerry handset. RIM have intentionally moved away from the classic QWERTY keyboard design and created a full touchscreen handset with which smartphone users will be far more familiar. However, the functionality and operating system is still distinctly BlackBerry, tweaked with some very interesting and intuitive innovations in their biggest redesign to date.

z10spec

Featuring a Snapdragon S4 processor, 8MP camera with LED flash and HD video recording, 4G connectivity and a 4.2″ touchscreen, the Z10 is very different to the handsets we’ve come to know and love from BlackBerry. It has been completely redesigned and re-engineered, featuring a metal casing and high end technology to cope with the stressed of everyday life, both in reality and online.

With the new BlackBerry 10 software, everything is interlinked, from apps to internet to email, allowing you to smoothly and easily transition between numerous different activities without slowing down. Coined as ‘BlackBerry Flow’, you’re able to open running apps with a simple swipe, rather than the usual process of exiting and opening we’re all used to. ‘Peek’ is also a fun but useful feature BlackBerry have devised; a slight rightward movement of the thumb and you’re able to see if that email that has just come through is from a client with an urgent request, or a marketing email that you can ignore until later. In true BlackBerry style, all of your different feeds are linked seamlessly in one place, so you’ll never miss an update again. Unless you want to.

z10keyboard

The biggest challenge BlackBerry faced by giving up their physical keyboard and embracing full touchscreen was keeping the ease of use BlackBerry users are so accustomed to, and it’s fair to say that they have certainly stepped up to the plate with BlackBerry Keyboard. It remains obviously BlackBerry, featuring the frets we all know in their new virtual form, but with clever little details which distinguish it from other touchscreen keyboards on the market, the most notable being the predictive text. BlackBerry Keyboard learns your writing style and commonly used words and phrases, displaying potential next words above the letters which the user can then ‘flick’ into the message in a very cool and slick way. Messaging has never been faster, easier and more intuitive.

Conclusion

Overall, the BlackBerry Z10 is an interesting, adaptable and intuitive device which will help you organise your life and multi-task in whole new ways. Whether you’ve had a BlackBerry before or not, the Z10 will be a valuable tool in the day-to-day running of your business.
